The Houston Science Policy and Advocacy Group is a group of early-career scientists dedicated to sharing conversation, opportunities, and resources related to science policy.

“Science, by itself, provides no panacea for individual, social, and economic ills. […] But without scientific progress no amount of achievement in other directions can insure our health, prosperity, and security as a nation in the modern world.”

— Vannevar Bush, The Endless Frontier (1945)

Science policy is the intersection of science and public policy.

Broadly speaking, science policy can be divided in two categories:

Science for Policy - Scientific knowledge applied to inform, adapt, and drive policies/policy changes by governments, businesses, and even individuals.

Policy for Science - Policies that ensure responsible research conduct, set government/philanthropic funding priorities, and support innovation.

We are a non-partisan, trainee-led interest group of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the sciences in Houston, TX.
